Yesterday Facebook started rolling out Timeline for Facebook Pages and of course you have some folks that are excited about it and see it as an opportunity and then there are others who aren’t happy.  Whether we like it or not, all Facebook Pages will have Timeline by March 30th so we just need to get use to it and figure out how to best implement the new changes.

(here’s a guide to set yours up)

According to Lujure.com there are 6 Things You Need to Know about Timeline for Facebook Pages

1.  Default Landing Pages are Gone:

This is the one most people are going to be mad about.  However I do hear that marketers will have the ability to send Facebook Ads to specific Tabs which is hot!

2.  Photos, Apps, & Likes are at the top:

All I can say is that I love that how clean this looks.  You can show up to a maximum of 12 apps.  I’m currently only using the YouTube one.

3.  Pinning:

You can now pin your post to keep important stories or information at the top of your timeline.  I think this is a dope feature.

4.  New Admin Panel:

Clean and easy way to look at a snapshot of what’s happening with your Page.

5.  Fan Page Messages:

This is great.  People can now privately message you, something that was an option when via regular profiles.

6.  Cover Photo:

Alright I might get in trouble here but you’re going to see a flood of cheesy looking covers from marketers.  I know it, I’ve already seen some with regular profile timelines.

My advice, keep your stuff clean  yo!

  1. Alenandro, the timeline is an attractive presentation, and I admire folks who have converted theirs. I put this on the back burner, but am motivated now to make the change and be one of the examples of using the tool well. Thanks as always for your inspiration.

    • I agree with you. Let me know when you convert yours, it’s not so hard/bad. I just recommend you get a good looking photo or image before you do it.

Send me your page when you do okay?

  2. What’s crazy are all the rules they have around the Cover Photo such as no Call To Action, no arrows or references to facebook features like the like button and more. I am learning more about these changes today.

    • Adam, honestly, marketers are still going to do the CTA type Covers, but I think Facebook is smart for implementing these rules.
I wish you could at least say “Like Us” or something but other than that, I think it’s a good move.
Lets get on a skype chat soon to discuss.

      • Sounds great, a few friends of mine are already working on training. I think Smart marketers are going to up their interaction game and really start providing more value because it seems like the new system is really going to reward good content.

        • Interesting…is there a website, page, blog post that details the new “restrictions?”

  3. I’ve been resisting switching over to the time line format just because I wasn’t in the mood to change. But I guess now that it is forced upon me I might as well embrace it and then master it. Good info bud, keep it coming.

  4. Alejandro,

Thank you for this update, I truly appreciate it. I personally would still like to be able to migrate totally to Google+ and get off FB completey, but a) don’t have the time to read how to do it all b) can’t get FB to ‘drop’ me, at least from what I have tried. Keeping up with technology is a time-consuming, long, lengthy process.

  5. Alejandro! I was just playing around with this and decided to hit “publish” before I totally understood it. I like the Timeline too and MESSAGES! OMG, that’s cause for me to dump my personal profile once and for all. Yes, cheezy marketers are making wretched covers for the tops of their pages but that doesn’t surprise me.

Thanks for all your great info!

    • Homegirl! Thanks for chiming in.
Let me know when you dump the regular profile for the fan page. Are you going to migrate or do you have 2 accounts right now?
      Lets chat real soon!

  6. Thanks for the insight! Didn’t know that you can send ads to a specific tab.
