Don’t Give Up, Don’t Ever Give Up…Oscar De La Hoya

Tonight I watched one of the most beloved boxers in the world, Oscar De La Hoya, give up Saturday day night against Manny “Pacman” Paquiao.

Yes I was upset that he quit after the 8th round ended in his corner but I’m not talking about that.  I’m talking about when he gave up during the fight.

He just wasn’t comfortable the whole fight and it seemed like he didn’t really wanted to try.  As if he was waiting for the fight to be over.

I was upset.  I was let down by you Oscar.  Please don’t ever give up again.  Fight back. Believe in yourself.  Don’t ever give up!

This reminds me of one of the most AMAZING speeches I’ve ever heard which was by Jimmy V at the 1993 ESPY Awards.  If you don’t know the story, basically Jim Valvano was suffering from cancer and at the ESPY’s they honor him with the Arthur Ashe award.

This video will give you goosebumps if you haven’t seen it already.  I promise you, you won’t be let down.

Until tomorrow, DON’T GIVE UP, DON’T EVER GIVE UP!  I still love you Oscar!

I don’t know I think maybe there are some that should give up. Know when to quit. Isnt he being foolish with his success if he isnt at least expecting to one day retire?

    Remember Sugar Ray? Same situation.

I think the best way to put t is in a HBO special Don King. The Character said referring to Ali “How can you tell God (Ali) he cant make the sky thunder and lightning clap? How can you tell God he is less than he is?”

IS there a model out there for boxers to follow or adapt for retiring? Besides getting beaten in the ring?
